Built on a hillside, our retreat offers spectacular views of the nearby Potala Palace.

From the hotel’s slaked lime coloured walls to the indigo carved windows and fish-fin shaped facade,

all of these architectural details pay great respect to traditional artisans, Tibetan culture, and ancient wisdom.

The interior design is inspired and derived from the lifestyle of Lhasa natives;

stylistically decorated with exquisite Thangka paintings and wall tapestries to revive an environment typical of noble families living centuries ago.

DINING

Lhasa means "Blessed land" in Tibetan language, with vast terrain, abundant water, fertile valley soil on both sides of Quji River, making it suitable for farming. The surrounding mountainous area is rich in water and grass with many excellent pastures. Tibetans, Hans, Muslims and Nepalese live here for generations, forming a fusion of food flavor. Songtsam Linka Lhasa restaurant selects yak meat, yak butter, milk dregs and other dairy products produced from the excellent pastures of Dangxiong County in the north of Lhasa, highland barley and potatoes in Lhasa as the main ingredients. While retaining Lhasa traditional dish style, it also provides improved dishes and fusion dishes suitable for the public taste.

ACTIVITY

In general, Tibetans consider the 1,300-year-old Jokhang Temple to be the most sacred and important temple in Tibet, even more so than Potala Palace. It is the most popular pilgrimage destination for Tibetan Buddhists all over the world and was listed as UNESCO World heritage site in 2000, as part of the Potala Palace. Located in the centre of the old city of Lhasa, the four-storey “House of Buddha” temple is best visited in the morning, as access is limited in the afternoon and there are few pilgrims. However, during both the day and night there are lots of pilgrims who pray in front of the temple, while the real people of Lhasa spend both the beginning and the end of a single day here.

Shoton Festival

Shoton Festival is the most significant festival held once a year in Tibetan area. Shoton is a Tibetan word, where “sho” means yogurt and “ton” means banquet, which make this festival also known as the Yogurt Festival.
Starting at the late June or the early July on the Tibetan calendar, Shoton Festival usually lasts for four to five days, and can even last up to a week. If you choose to visit Lhasa during this period, you can explore the charisma of the Tibetan culture and daily life by watching the traditional Tibetan operas, enjoying the picnic with local people (过林卡) and tasting the pure yogurt with other traditional Tibetan cuisines .
