SHANGRI-LA
Shangri-La has long been viewed as a paradise-on-earth, with its majestic landscape, diverse cultures and deep spirituality.
Located in wide valley, Shangri-La is surrounded by mountain ranges on all four sides.
It is the capital of the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and the gateway to the ancient Tibetan Kingdom.
Shangri-La is characterised by snow-capped mountain peaks, pristine forests and lakes, traditional Tibetan villages with white-walled and richly decorated buildings.
Tianbao Abujee Snow Mountain Hike
Known as “the Alps of Shangri-La”, Tianbao Abujee Snow Mountain is one of the top seven biggest snow mountains in the area with more than 100 peaks over approx. 2.49 miles (4,000m), the highest being approx. 2.95 miles (4,750m). Surrounded by stunning alpine pastures, cliffs, and primitive forests, the area is home to a huge variety of plants and animals and is one of the most important biodiverse regions in China. It takes about 6 hours to trek the whole route and is considered our most challenging hike with an altitude difference close to ½ mile (800m) along the way.
Yunnan Golden Monkey National Park
The Xianggujing Forest, located near Songtsam Lodge Tacheng, is a natural paradise for the protection of rare animals and golden monkeys. The Yunnan snub-nosed monkey, also known as the Black snub-nosed monkey, lives in one of the most extreme environments of any non-human primate totaling less than 3000 animals.
